Ebay Win

The Stars Aligned

On our 2015 Summer vacation with Gordie, where we travelled from Calgary, AB to California, Kevin decided to bid on an unusual Ebay listing. The listing was a $500 transfer paper for a 1950 Airfloat. Or that's what everyone else thought. Kevin had a hunch and looked through the whole listing and found the few photos of the trailer and immediately contacted the owner. 2 days later, we were notified we just won  her!

Detour

de·tour

noun

1.a long or roundabout route taken to avoid something or to visit somewhere along the way.

Arizona

Arizona was NOT on our original flight plan but we needed to make it happen. We cut short our Cali stay and booked it to Mesa, AZ to assess the damage to the trailer and figure out what on Earth we are going to do with her until we could come back and pick her up.

Why Maude?

"Maude"

Maude is a play on words. The 1950 Airfloat is a beautiful example of Mid Century Modern design and will be a historically accurate trailer when we are finished with the frame off restoration

That'll buff right out

Maude is going to require a bit more spit and polish than our other trailers. She was left in the desert for the buzzard to pick her apart and it's on us to restore her to her former glory.

Original Features

Besides the rarity of owning a 1950 Airfloat land yacht, we appreciate the value of restoring a piece of history. Maude retains all of her original features including appliances, light fixtures, magazine rack, pop-up vanity mirror and her china cabinet. We are very fortunate to be the people responsible for making her beautiful again.
